What is a Bernedoodle?

Clever, goofy, gentle, and loyal are some of the things they are. The Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents of the Bernedoodle breed have been claimed to have the best of both worlds.

History of Bernedoodle

The Bernedoodle is a relatively new breed.

Sherry Rupke of Swissridge Kennels claims to be the first to breed a hybrid of the Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, though a hybrid of those dogs may have existed before then.

The American Kennel Club doesn’t recognize the Bernedoodle as a breed, though it is recognized by several other groups.

Rescue groups that focus on Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs will sometimes work with mixes of those breeds while this breed is considered a designer breed. You shouldn’t have to rely on a breeder for a Bernedoodle, and you should always adopt before shopping for one.

Breed qualities

A misconception is that small size puppy means an apartment dog. A lot of small dogs in a high-rise are too rambunctious. Being calm indoors and polite with the other residents are good qualities in an apartment dog. You can get a crate for your dog here to give them more personal space in your apartment.

Vital information

The mixed breed dogs are from 10 to 29 inches tall at the shoulder and ranged in size from tiny to standard. Smaller Bernedoodles live longer than standard ones.

More about this type of dog

As a companion dog, Bernedoodle is through and through. The charming, goofy, happy-go-lucky temperament of the Bernese Mountain Dog is what makes the Poodle breed unique. They are happy when they are spending time with their families, children included, and are willing participants in playtime.

They are friendly, inquisitive, and affectionate. It’s a blessing for allergy sufferers that they tend to be more allergy-free.

Bernedoodles can have different looks in addition to their personalities. Their coats can be curly or straight and come in a wide variety of colors. They are available in three sizes; standard, tiny and miniature. Depending on the size of the Poodle parent, these sizes can be toy, mini or standard.

Bernedoodles are able to go with the flow and adapt to it. Small dogs make better apartment pets than larger dogs, who do best with a yard. This breed has moderate exercise needs that are usually met with a walk.

If you’re looking for a dog that will put a smile on your face with their antics, or if you need a dog for the whole family, you won’t be able to find a better choice than the Bernedoodle.

Temperament

Many of the best personality qualities from the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle breed can be found in the Bernedoodle. Some of the characteristics that they inherit from their parents can vary a bit. Highly intelligent, hard-working, loyal, and just a bit goofy, are some of the qualities of the banedoos. They are good with kids and other dogs if they are well socialized.

Some Bernese Mountain Dog’s stubbornness makes them difficult to train, however this trait tends to fade away as puppies become adolescents. When they start training, their intelligence helps them pick up commands more quickly than other dogs. socialization is important at a young age because the Bernese’s apprehension around strangers may be passed on to Bernedoodles.

They can have high energy levels and crave attention, but they can also be moderate in their activity levels. It is best for them to be in a home where they are not alone for long periods of time. Standard Bernedoodles don’t do as well in city life as the tiny and Miniature ones. They will need to walk for a long time to burn off their energy. Typically, they want nothing more than to be with their humans and are just as prepared to play with them as they are to join them on the couch for cuddles.

Size

Miniature, and standard are the three sizes of Bernedoodle. These results come from the size of the Poodle parent, which can be a toy, mini, or standard size. (Wiki2.org)

These dogs can be found in shelters and rescues despite their unfortunate status as a designer breed. It is advisable to adopt.

Since they aren’t bred to take home ribbons in dog shows, they are instead meant to be the perfect, loving companions for families with children.
